Actor Muniz headed for the fast lane
March 13, 2007 - LAGUNA SECA - Frankie Muniz jumped into my Grand Prix outside Turn Six at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Friday, and while we rode to the paddock he talked about the latest love of his life: Racing.

Muniz, 21, the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for the critically acclaimed Fox TV series "Malcolm in the Middle," got a taste of racing in 2004 when he competed in the Toyota Celebrity race at Champ Car's Long Beach Grand Prix. The following year, he substituted for another driver - and won.

Shortly thereafter, he enrolled in an advanced three-day racing course at Laguna Seca, and recalls how former Salinas resident Jonathon Bomarito was his driving instructor.

"He was a great teacher," Muniz said. "Once we sat outside Turn 10 and he gave me pointers on the other drivers. It's always better if you have someone you can relate to."

That relationship may soon be put to the test because Muniz is putting his acting career on hold to compete as a rookie racing the full season in the Atlantic Series - the top-feeder series to Champ Car. Among his competitors will be Bomarito, a 2000 Palma High graduate, who got his first win last year in the Atlantic season finale.

"I don't think people realize that Frankie never sat in a race car until just a couple years ago," said Chandler Team Jensen president Eric Jensen during a press event at Laguna Seca Friday. "He has come a long way in a short time and has tremendous talent."

Muniz will be driving the purple and gold No. 13 for Chandler Team Jensen.

Muniz may appear in three films in 2007, but he said racing is where he'll be focusing his abilities. He recalled how Jason Priestly, a former star on "Beverly Hills 90210," got the racing bug but was severely injured in a testing accident.

Does that worry you any, I asked?

"Not really," he said.

As for Bomarito, whom Muniz praised as an excellent coach, the student will likely try to usurp the teacher when the season begins April 6-8 at the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix.

His combined lap times at the conclusion of the two-day test was 101.9 mph, or 1 minute, 19 seconds around the 2.2-mile permanent road course west of Salinas. Bomarito's results were third-best overall, or 105.4 mph at 1 minute, 16 seconds.

Chandler Development Group Signs Title Sponsorship Deal for Muniz
March 12, 2007 - Vancouver-based Chandler Development Group Inc. has signed on as title sponsor of Jensen MotorSport (JMS) driver Frankie Muniz for his rookie season on the Champ Car Atlantic circuit.

“Acquiring a feature sponsor like the Chandler Development Group is a milestone for Frankie’s racing career,” says team President Eric Jensen. “He’s a promising new driver and this partnership is a testament to his abilities. Jensen MotorSport is proud to have Chandler Development join the team and we’re all looking forward to a successful racing season.”

The exciting new deal will see Muniz’s car branded as #13 Chandler Team Jensen. It will also give Chandler high-profile brand visibility with logo placement on the car, helmet and racing suit of Muniz in addition to exclusive opportunities for contesting and promotions featuring the young actor-turned-driver.

Muniz, 21, is an Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for his lead role in the critically acclaimed FOX television series ‘Malcolm in the Middle’. He recently put his acting career on hold to pursue a professional driving career and will compete in four Canadian races this summer: the inaugural Mont Tremblant Grand Prix, the Grand Prix of Toronto and a double-header at the Edmonton Grand Prix.

“When Chandler Development decided to get involved in racing, we went looking for a driver and team that would exemplify the same standards of excellence that our company upholds,” says Mark Chandler, president of the real estate development group. “We found exactly what we were looking for in Frankie and Jensen MotorSport. This partnership is a great alignment for our company, especially as we continue to focus on expanding our brand across North America.”

The Chandler Development Group is an aggressive, growth-oriented real estate development company that has brought leading retail, commercial and residential projects to the greater Vancouver area for more than 20 years. The Group’s deal with Jensen MotorSport marks its first venture into auto racing sponsorship.

Laguna Seca Test Review
March 8, 2007 - Jensen MotorSport unveiled it’s new team colors for the first time at a 2-day official series test at the Laguna Seca circuit in Monterey California on March 7th & 8th.

Frankie Muniz had an eventful test in the #13 Chandler Team Jensen entry. Frankie started the test in a very strong 8th position after the first 90 minutes of driving with a time of 1:19:0; which shows how well Frankie is now at learning new circuits. In an uncommon twist, Frankie never again was able to improve or replicate that time. Team owner Eric Jensen states, “It’s quite odd that Frankie was unable to improve his first session times. He consistently improved his mid-corner minimum speeds in the fast sections of the circuit, but was unable to put it all together to make a quick lap.”

The team returns to the Montreal shop for final preparations in advance of the opening race of the 2007 season at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, April 6th – 8th.

Jensen Launching Hot New Branding at Laguna Seca
March 1, 2007 - Jensen MotorSport is excited to announce our new branding for the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic season. Our team colors are changing to a silver / red / black color scheme; which is a major change from our blue / white scheme of recent years.

Race fans can see our Jensen cars in action for the first time with our new colors at the official series test at the Laguna Seca circuit in Monterey California on March 7th and 8th. Our team will also be decked out in our new colors with new crew shirts and team kit.

In the three weeks since the last official series test at MSR Houston, the crew only had time to paint two cars. So race fans can look for Tom Sutherland and Frankie Muniz respectively driving the newly styled #2 ClickAway Team Jensen and #13 Chandler Team Jensen race cars.

Jensen MotorSport is also proud to reveal our new team logo, which incorporates our new colors.

Team owner Eric Jensen states, “We have some terrific new programs for the 2007 season, so we felt now was an ideal time to clearly define our image within the Champ Car community.”

Team PR Director Missy Robson states, “We expect considerable media attention in the 2007 season with our Hollywood celebrity driver Frankie Muniz. We are also planning to offer race fans and Frankie Muniz fans the opportunity to purchase team themed hats and shirts direct from our Jensen MotorSport web-site. So we included Frankie in the decision about our new team colors, since his image is now so closely linked with Jensen MotorSport.”

A couple of recent photos of our new paint scheme are included with this release. The second photo is taken outside of our new shop in Montreal, with a backdrop of the downtown core.
