Women would generally wear headdresses that covered the hair and ears. Slashing A distinct style of R enaissance clothing was the introduction of slashing. In order to distinguish themselves from commoners, the aristocracy passed ordinances f orbidding the wearing of different colored clothing. This did not sit well with the fashion conscious members of society that were not of no lemonade diet ble birth. To get around this rule, Renaissance designers introduced a procedure called slashing. Slashing entailed producing garments with an outer and inner color and cutting slots in the outer layer revealing the interior color.
